Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has finally revealed that the transfer rumours surrounding his exit from Chelsea in January was true.
Giroud was linked with a move to Inter Milan, Lazio and Tottenham in January. Giroud was keen to leave Chelsea at the time after falling down the pecking order in the Chelsea team.
Chelsea were willing to sell Giroud, but only if the Blues sign a replacement, which never happened.
Giroud has revealed how desperate he was to leave Chelsea that he was ready to sign for any club.
“During the last three days of the transfer window, I was in the coach’s office to find a solution. I was hoping Chelsea would find a replacement for me,” Giroud told So Foot, via Goal.
“For my part, it was not the solutions that were lacking: I almost signed for Lazio, Inter. I was even so determined to leave that I even almost signed for Tottenham!”
Giroud has tough competition in Timo Werner this season, but he has vowed to give the German a run in, in the first team.
