Chelsea’s move for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been well publicised, as the Blues have been looking for a goalkeeper to rival current first choice Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The deal is in the final stages, and Mendy has since come to London for his medical.
Speaking after the 6-0 win against Barnsley, the Blues boss admitted that his deal could be announced within the next 24 hours.
“The medical I think is done and complete,” said Lampard. “I want to be a bit careful with that. I don’t want to give absolute confirmation, but possibly over the next 24 hours. It seems like one which is done.”
Lampard had revealed that Chelsea legend Petr Cech played a key role in the imminent arrival of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
“Petr was important in that, because the goalkeeper position is a very particular position,” Lampard said ahead of Wednesday night’s EFL Cup meeting with Barnsley.
“Petr Cech was the best in the world at that for a long time. He certainly will have a big say in this situation from my point of view, I lean heavily on him when it comes to the goalkeepers day to day, planning and the future. He was very influential.”
Mendy will be Frank Lampard’s seventh signing of the summer, upon the signing of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz.
