Chelsea manager Frank Lampard handed summer signing Thiago Silva his first game for the Blues.
Silva, was given his debut after signing as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain.
It was a very commanding performance from the Brazilian as he marshalled the defence and helped ensure that the Blues keep a clean sheet.
Lampard was pleased with the display of the 35-year-old, and his game after the match.
“It’s exciting for us,” Lampard said after the game.
“He has just had a week’s training with us. But he gave something off for us with his leadership and authority.
“At the minute, the fact he can’t speak the language doesn’t matter too much.”
Silva used this game to build up his match fitness and sharpness, but it’s yet to be seen if the Brazilian will feature this weekend against West Brom.
