Chelsea signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig during the summer, as the Blues were in need of a top striker ahead of the new season.
Werner was second highest scorer in the German Bundesliga last season with 28 goals, only behind Bayern Munich Robert Lewandowski.
Werner scored 34 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season, and RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams has admitted it will be “extremely difficult” for the club to cope without Werner.
Speaking with Insider, Adams was asked if Leipzig can continue this season in the same vein as last, as Werner helped fire them to a third place finish in the Bundesliga.
Adams said: “It’s going to be extremely difficult, obviously we’ve lost some key players now.”
Adams continued: “Bayern [Munich] and [Borussia] Dortmund are obviously always two of the top teams in the league, and of course for us, we know it’s tough competition to compete for the league, but that’s one of our goals. We are not going to stop at where we are at right now.”
Werner scored on his unofficial club debut in friendly game against Brighton last week, and is expected to make his Chelsea debut on Monday against the Seagulls.
