Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was shown a red card right before the stroke of half-time in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening for a foul on Sadio Mane.
Mane revealed the brief conversation he had with Christensen moments after the foul on him by Christensen.
Christensen was initially given a yellow card by referee Paul Tierney before it was upgraded to a red card after the reviewing the incident on the monitor.
Christensen and Mane were briefly engaged in conversation before Tierney’s revised decision and Mane revealed their conversation during his post-match interview.
“When he made the foul, I knew it was a red card,” Mane told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.
“I even told him, ‘My friend, it’s a penalty.’ ‘it’s a red card’, sorry. And then after, the referee gave him the red card. So it was lucky for us.”
