Mateo Kovacic has been a Chelsea player for two seasons now, after spending the previous campaign on loan from Real Madrid, before he eventually signed on a permanent deal last term.
Kovacic won the hearts of Chelsea fans with his performance last season and was voted as the Club’s Player of the Season.
However, one sorry part of Kovacic’s game is his lack of goals, as he has only scored twice in 98 appearances for Chelsea.
Kovacic’s international teammate, Luka Modric, has admitted that the Chelsea star is obsessed about not scoring goals, and has advised him not to worry too much about it.
Rather, Modric has told Kovacic to look up to his club manager Frank Lampard, who was a high scoring midfielder during his playing days.
“He was a bit obsessed about not scoring goals,” Modric told The Times. “But I tell him to just relax and not think about it and that goal will come suddenly and it will open his account.
“He just needs to think about how to help the team and impose his game on the pitch and if goals come it is a big plus, he does not need to be obsessed.
“It is normal for a midfielder to want to score goals, but now he has scored and in future hopefully he will score more, but hopefully it won’t take two years! I am sure it will not.
“I think he can improve, and what is important for him is that he has a coach [Lampard] who was one of the best midfielders in England and under him he can grow even more.”
