It wasn’t the best of displays for Chelsea against Brighton, but the Blues got the three points nevertheless, and also scored three goals in the process.
One thing Chelsea lacked in that game was adequate wing play. Mason Mount did his bit from the left flank, but his best performances are usually from the centre, while Kai Havertz looked out of position when coming in from the right.
Gunners legend Paul Merson has slammed Frank Lampard’s decision to let go of Willian, insisting that the Blues manager should have done everything possible to ensure that the club keep Willian.
Willian put in a five star showing on his debut for Arsenal, while injury ensured Chelsea were without Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.
Merson pointed out that Chelsea will need Willian due to their injury prone nature and that sometimes, new players take time to adjust, as was the case with Kai Havertz on his debut.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I can’t believe Chelsea let Willian go.
“I know they’ve gone out and get special players, but there’s nothing to say they’re going to hit the ground running.
“In Willian, you’ve got someone there who is ready-made. I like who they’ve signed, but they cost a lot of money, and their wages are probably the same as Willian.
“Frank Lampard has now. He hasn’t got four years. That’s management, I’m not being horrible.
“Even if Frank wins the league this year, it doesn’t mean he’s going to be there in four years’ time! We know that, and how it changes.
“Who is to say this isn’t going to take time for Chelsea? And I don’t think they’ve got time at the moment.”
