Chelsea have been kicked out of the Carabao Cup after suffering a 5-4 penalty defeat to Tottenham following a 1-1 draw in the fourth round of the competition.

Chelsea were by far the better side in the first-half, but Jose Mourinho’s side got back into the game in the second-half, and the Blues will be made to rue their missed chances.

Mendy: Impressive debut from the former Rennes goalkeeper, with two impressive saves. He was big in goal during the game and confidently came out to take our crosses. However, he didn’t help his team with a save during the penalty shootout. 6/10

Azpilicueta: Good move for Chelsea’s goal, as he took out Sergio Reguilon, before laying a fine pass into the box for Werner to finish. Didn’t support the attack in the second half and wasn’t too good on the ball in the second period, when Tottenham came charging. 6/10

Tomori: Solid performance and used his pace to help recover at the back. 6/10

Zouma: Did okay at the back and made one challenge to deny Gedson Fernandes when he was through. 6/10

Chilwell: Good first half performance as he was good on the ball and was also solid defensively. Looked out of place in the second half, as he he seemed a bit rusty. 6/10

Jorginho: Dictated play in the first-half as Chelsea bossed the game, but couldn’t do that in the second half when Spurs looked a different side. 6/10

Kovacic: Did well in the first-half but couldn’t continue in the second half. Lacked cutting edge to his game. 5/10

Mount: Good on the ball in the first-half, but was quite below average in the second half. Had one good moment where he could have played in Timo Werner, but failed to find the German. Missed the decisive penalty during the shootout. 4/10

Hudson-Odoi: Was very lively in the first half but found it difficult to replicate it in the second half. Had one big moment where he should have passed to Tammy Abraham and it would have been game over. He selfishly went for goal and missed. Would get a lower rating because of that singular act that cost his team. 5/10

Werner: Scored his first Chelsea goal with a wonderful finish into the bottom corner. Was very lively in the first half, but got missing for much of the second period. 7/10

Giroud: It’s been a long time he had such a game. Was never in the game from the first half. 4/10

Emerson: Came in as a 66th minute sub for Chilwell. He was poorly positioned for Spurs equaliser. 4/10

Kante: Came on for Kovacic on the 72nd minute and brought fresh energy to the Chelsea midfield. 6/10

Tammy Abraham: Brought more energy after replacing Giroud late on, but lacked service. 5/10
