Chelsea had it tough against Brighton, but the Blues were able to go back to London with the three points, following a 3-1 victory over the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium on Monday night.
Jorginho had put Chelsea ahead from the penalty spot in the first-half, but shortly after the restart, a long range shot from Leonardo Trossard levelled the scores. Chelsea didn’t feel the impact, courtesy of Reece James thunder striker, with Kurt Zouma scoring later on to make it 3-1.
Lampard was pleased with the goal and also the performance of James, as the Blues boss revealed how glad he is to have two quality right backs in Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Lampard told the media after the game: “I did say that to the build up. I’m asked that question a lot. It shows you with the younger players – Reece, Mason, Ruben came through the system, so did Andreas. The opportunities for the lads if they perform well, train well, play well is there. Reece does that for us.
“Right back is a position for me where I have got two quality players with different attributes. That’s a good one for me.
“The goal didn’t surprise me. I know Reece can catch his shots. He tries it sometimes in those positions to get shots away. We know he has great deliveries when he is crossing balls, so it was slightly surprising that it was so clean but I know he has got that in him.”
