Tariq Lamptey left Chelsea in January to sign up for Brighton for just a meagre fee of £4m. The highly rated teenager was in the final year of his contract, but opted against signing a new deal, as he’d have been third choice behind Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James.
The 19-year-old made his first Chelsea appearance off the bench in the 2-1 comeback away to Arsenal back in December, and he was explosive off the bench.
However, he refused to sign a new contract with Chelsea, and upon moving to Brighton in January, he didn’t take too long to make the right-back position his own.
Lamptey was the best player on the pitch as he put in an electrifying performance. He made more tackles and interceptions than any of his Brighton team-mates in what was a very impressive display.
Brighton manager Graham Potter was pleased with Lamptey’s performance, as he said after the game: “Lamptey was fun to watch.
“Such energy, such personality and enthusiasm for the game. He’s still got lots to learn but his approach to football is refreshing.”
