Chelsea have made seven major signings this summer, and the Blues are expected to seal another signing before the end of the summer transfer window, if recent reports are anything to go by.
According to reports, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is still keen on signing Declan Rice from West Ham, as he’s not convinced with the current defensive midfielders at the club. Lampard wants N’Golo Kante higher up the pitch, and Jorginho doesn’t seem he can play the role of a deep line playmaker effectively, due to his defensive frailties.
But for Rice, he is good on the ball and can also bring that defensive balance to the team, which Lampard is looking for.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, has now claimed that Chelsea are closing in on the 21-year-old after agreeing a five-year contract with him.
He tweeted: “Chelsea are literally on fire: after Mendy’s signing, Blues are working to close Declan Rice’s deal.
“Talks ongoing with West Ham (rejected a bid of €50M + add-ons). The midfielder has already agreed personal terms for a 5-year contract.”
Meanwhile, Hammers boss David Moyes, has often stated that the club aren’t interested in selling Rice.
For Rice, he’s reportedly keen on sealing a move to Stamford Bridge.
