Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has spent big this summer to improve the Chelsea squad after a fourth place finish last season.
According to former Manchester United and Manchester City player Owen Hargreaves, Chelsea still lack leaders in the team despite spending over £200million on new talent this summer.
“I just think back to those great Chelsea teams,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
“[Petr] Cech, John Terry, [Claude] Makelele, Frank, [Didier] Drogba. The whole spine of the team was flawless, leaders.
“I would have signed all those players [Chelsea have signed] if I was sporting director, really good young players, but I’m not sure who the leader of the team is.
“[N’Golo] Kante’s a great player but he’s so quiet. [Mateo] Kovacic, I know he’s quite quiet, so all of a sudden who is the leader in the backline?
“I think Frank has built a good group of players here but if he looks at it, where’s his JT? Where’s his Frank? Where’s his Drogba?
“As much as I like everything he’s done – you only really know teams when they’re struggling and you need leaders then.”
