According to former Premier League striker Alan Shearer, Kepa Arrizabalaga is only partly responsible for Chelsea’s woeful defensive record under Frank Lampard.

The former striker believes Chelsea’s poor defending against West Brom shows Chelsea defenders should also be blamed.

“They’ve kept one clean sheet in 21 away games under Frank Lampard and a lot of times Kepa has taken flack for that, rightly so, and he was left out today, but his defenders have got to start accepting responsibility,” iconic Alan Shearer told the BBC.

“They are nowhere near good enough at this moment in time and basic errors have cost them. The first from Alonso, they were punished, there was still work to be done and it was a fantastic finish.

“Then another, one of the most experienced guys around, a simple error – you don’t get that sort of time on the ball in our league, you get punished, as they did again.

“These are simple, basic errors that they have to stop if they want to get to where they want to be.”
