After successful spells with AC Milan and PSG, Thiago Silva joined Chelsea during the summer, as he’s now joined another big club, despite being 36.

The Brazilian has revealed that his coming to Chelsea wasn’t just for fun, as he has said that he came to Stamford Bridge to win trophies.

“I’m not here just to go through the motions, or just for the experience – I’m here to win,” he said in the Chelsea programme ahead of the Tottenham game.

“I want everyone to be very clear about that: I’m going to give my all to make sure that Chelsea win.

“I didn’t come here to dine out in London or visit the tourist sites. I came to play football, to work, and that’s what I’m preparing for. I’m certain, with the group of players we’ve got and a coach who’s a natural leader, that we’ll be in the fight for every piece of silverware going this year.”

Silva made an error in the Blues game against West Brom that led to a goal, but he has since apologised for his mistake.

“There are days when unfortunately hard work doesn’t pay off the way we expected,” Thiago Silva wrote on Instagram.

“I am upset, but I take responsibility for the mistake I made, as I always did. As difficult as it may be, we have to get over this and move on.

“I want to thank my teammates and the entire staff for their continuous support since I joined Chelsea FC. I am really grateful of that support.

“I promise to all of you that I will give everything I have on the pitch, putting all my energy and commitment into the games to come.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
