A hat-trick for Kai Havertz and one each for Tammy Abraham, Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud were enough for Chelsea to seal a 6-0 victory against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round tie at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
However, it wasn’t the entire story, as Barnsley pressed Chelsea very hard to win the ball back and they also tested Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero often, with Caballero having to make as many as nine saves.
Speaking after the game, Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber, said that his side made it easy for Chelsea by making too many mistakes.
The Chelsea manager said: “We expected a big opponent. They have special ability. Nevertheless we found some good moments. We have good pressing and 20 minutes in control and had good chances, but we couldn’t use them.
“We had top chances, but when you can use chances the game can go in a different direction. We helped Chelsea with the goals, three of them, we had mistakes and it makes it difficult.
He also said: “Today we can speak about the good moments but we made it too easy for them to score goals. The pressure, the situation was not so easy for us. We were on the limit of our intensity and aggression. Not easy to win the balls against them.”
