Kai Havertz completed his transfer to Chelsea last week, making him Frank Lampard’s sixth major summer signing.
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United were interested in signing Havertz but refused to go after him because of their interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
Havertz sparkled for Bayer Leverkusen last season as they narrowly missed out on a place in the Champions League, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists.
Meanwhile, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia revealed why Chelsea signed Havertz.
“Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea,” she said.
“He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent. We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins.”
