Brazil legend Thiago Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer, after leaving Paris Saint-Germain following their Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich.
The 35-year-old Brazilian signed a one-year deal with Chelsea, with the option of another year. Unfortunately for Silva, he will not meet his Brazilian contingent that were formerly at the club, with Willian having left the club during the summer, and David Luiz having left a year ago. Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho could also be on their way out of the club.
Meanwhile, The Telegraph has claimed that Willian jokingly told Silva that he would have remained at the club if he knew the Brazilian was heading to Stamford Bridge.
Willian jokingly told his compatriot: “If I’d known you were moving to Chelsea, I would have stayed there after all.”
The report also claimed that Neymar encouraged Silva to take up the offer to join Chelsea as ‘it would be a challenge he would regret not taking’.
Upon signing for Chelsea, Silva told the club’s official website: “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea.
“I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours. See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”
