Kai Havertz was the most expensive signing of the summer, not only for Chelsea, but in all of Europe.
Reports claim that Chelsea splashed £70m on signing the German international, and his fee could rise up to £90m, based on add-ons.
Chelsea are yet to see the best of Havertz, but there have been flashes of his brilliance here and there, and he already has four goals to his name in all competitions.
According to former Chelsea star Joe Cole, he believes Havertz can bring out the best in Chelsea’s other attacking players like Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Joe Cole has urged the Chelsea manager to use Havertz in the same way that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp uses Roberto Firmino.
“I see him as a Firmino-type player where he knits it together. So you want him playing central, you want him in these positions,” said Cole on BT Sport.
“He’s got spatial awareness where he can bring players into the game.
“When you have a player of his quality, anytime he receives the ball, in any one of those positions he can hurt you. When you play in this position you have to understand how to make space.
“I think he will score lots of goals from this position. Players are going to love playing with him, like how [Liverpool] players love playing with Firmino.
“He’s such an exciting player and I feel his impact on this Chelsea team will not just be goals and assists, but bringing the best out of the likes of Pulisic, Mount, Callum [Hudson-Odoi] and Tammy [Abraham] because he can knit it together.”
Many Chelsea fans won’t agree with Joe Cole’s assessment of Kai Havertz, as the 21-year-old is yet to get used to the rhythm of the Premier League, and struggled in that role when deployed there against Liverpool.
