Tammy Abraham was Chelsea’s first choice striker for most parts of last season, and the young striker impressed in his first full season at the club, scoring 18 goals in all competitions.
With form and injury plaguing him in the second half of last season, Olivier Giroud became Frank Lampard’s choice striker, and the Frenchman indeed played a big role in helping Chelsea seal a top four place.
Blues boss Frank Lampard went ahead to spend big on a new striker, as he signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, who scored 28 league goals last season in the German Bundesliga.
Many expected that Abraham will have little to offer this season, but the 23-year-old striker has proven his doubters wrong.
While Werner has scored four goals in nine appearances so far, Abraham has as well done well. He has only started in three of his nine appearances this season for Chelsea, but has managed two goals and supplied four assists in return.
Besides just his goals and assists, the Chelsea academy product has looked sharp whenever he has come on, and is proving that he can provide serious competition for Werner.
Compared to the second half of last season, Abraham has looked fitter, sharper, and he’d definitely play a pivotal role to help Chelsea have a good season.
