Chelsea signed up Thiago Silva during the summer, as Frank Lampard signed the veteran defender to help shore his defence after the previous campaign that saw Chelsea concede 54 goals in the Premier League alone.
The Blues boss went on to sign a new goalkeeper in Edouard Mendy, with Kepa Arrizabalaga criticised for much of last season.
Gunners legend Ian Wright expects more from the Chelsea team this season, and believes Mendy will do well. Although, he has doubts over Thiago Silva who made a woeful error in the 3-3 draw against West Brom.
Wright said on the Kelly and Wrighty show: “Chelsea have got a team that you can feel that once the pieces fit they’re a very good team.
“It’s just how long it’s going to take to get that going smoothly, get the players in the right places, play some games, build some confidence and start beating teams.
“Hopefully the goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is going to make a big difference for them, but just putting Thiago Silva in their back line is not enough for me.”
