Frank Lampard’s interest in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is well known, but the Blues boss was unable to sign his midfield transfer target during the summer transfer window.
Lampard was keen on reinforcing his defensive midfield options, as he didn’t seem too satisfied with Jorginho’s performance last season.
Having signed a new goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back, attacking midfielder, winger and striker, the last signing he needed was a defensive midfielder who can both defend and start the attack.
However, the Hammers did just enough to keep Rice from moving to Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, fellow Hammers midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that West Ham must do everything to keep Rice, claiming that Chelsea and even other top clubs will still come for him again.
In a chat with Sky Sports News, Wilshere said: “I have said it before how much I rate him as a player and how much I enjoyed playing with and training with him and being around him.
“It is very important for West Ham that they kept him there this year.
“There is always going to be the big teams that come to try and take Declan Rice.
“That’s something that West Ham are going to deal with. But they have got him this year.”
