Chelsea boss Frank Lampard signed Thiago Silva during the summer transfer window following the expiration of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.
Despite being 36, the Brazilian centre-back has been a key player for the Blues, bringing his experience to a Chelsea defence that was leaky last season.
Lampard has preferred the centre-back partnership of Silva and Kurt Zouma, while Antonio Rudiger has become fifth choice defender for the Blues.
Rudiger’s start for the Blues in the 4-0 Champions League victory over Krasnodar on Wednesday night was the German’s first appearance for the Blues this season.
Following the win at Krasnodar, Chelsea boss Lampard admitted it’s difficult managing a squad with too many defenders.
Lampard said: “It isn’t easy to keep five centre-backs happy.”
