Chelsea played out a goalless draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, and it could easily have ended in a win for United, if not for the exploits of Edouard Mendy.
The new Chelsea goalkeeper pulled a jawdropping save to deny Rashford late in the game, and Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has admitted that he was behind Rashford and was expecting the ball to go into the net.
“I feel like we created the better chances,” Shaw told Manchester United’s official website. “Their keeper made wonderful saves at times.
“I was right behind it [Rashford’s shot] and, like I said, their keeper was very good today. He made a couple of very good saves that kept them in the game.”
Shaw was also pleased with his team’s defending and believes that United should have gotten the three points.
“We defended much better than we have been, especially against a very good team like Chelsea who have high-quality players all around the pitch,” said the England international.
“I feel like they didn’t really create much, and we did well in that aspect. But higher up the pitch we should have maybe grabbed a goal, or maybe even two, and taken the three points.”
