New Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made his debut in the Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Tottenham on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old impressed in goal against Spurs but was unfortunate to be on the losing side after an intense penalty shootout that saw Jose Mourinho’s side convert all their chances.

Reacting to his debut on his Instagram page, Mendy said: “Sad about Tuesday’s score, but honoured to have played my first game for Chelsea. Let’s keep working.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard revealed after the game that he was impressed with the performance of his new goalkeeper.

“I thought he was very good,” said Lampard.

“He made a couple of good saves. Came and caught a few balls. Very very pleased with every part of his game.”
