Two seasons ago, Chelsea youngster Reece James was with Championship side Wigan Athletic, and thoughts of first team opportunity for club and country, would have been a bit far from his imagination.
Last season, he played a prominent role in the Chelsea first team, and showed his quality for the Blues. While still trying to get used to his new status, the 20-year-old was given an invitation to the national team setup for England.
It didn’t just end there, he came on as a second half substitute in the Three Lions 3-0 win over Wales on Thursday.
After making his debut for England in their 3-0 win over Wales, Reece James tweeted: “Wow!!! I’ve been dreaming of this day since a little boy!
“What a feeling. I’d like to thank the manager for giving me this opportunity, and everyone else that’s believed in me and supported me to get to this point in my career. Follow your dreams with your heart!”
Reece James came on as a 58th-minute substitute in that friendly game, and he didn’t look like he was overawed by the situation.
Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta, has admitted that the young right-back is indeed giving him strong competition for the right-back position this season.
