It was a bizarre scene before Chelsea’s fourth goal in the 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace.

Ben Chilwell and Kurt Zouma, had put Chelsea 2-0 up before Jorginho converted two penalties to seal Chelsea’s victory.

In the game at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea skipper Cesar Apzilicueta had to insist that Jorginho play the kick, with Tammy coming to take the penalty.

Former Manchester United and West Ham defender Rio Ferdinand – spoke on BT Sport, as he revealed Apzilicueta did the right thing.

He said: “I understand everyone’s mindset on this.

“Tammy, Timo, they both want to get on the scoresheet, I understand that. I saw Frank do that with Paulo Di Canio at Upton Park, when we were playing.

“The captain comes over and says: ‘No, listen, I want the penalty taker to take it, the penalty taker is the penalty taker and he gets the ball’ – and he ends up taking it.

“I know Tammy looks a little bit upset because he wanted to take it, but they won 4-0, so it won’t be too much of an issue in the changing room.”
