Chelsea striker Timo Werner has claimed scoring the penalty in the second half to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead helped destroy Krasnodar’s momentum in the second half and secure the 4-0 victory for the Blues.
Werner said: “It was not as easy as the result says in the end.
“The first half was really tough for us. Krasnodar were really hard to play against, they caused us a lot of problems.
“We were a little bit unlucky not to score the [early] penalty but, after that, we played good to the front. We played deep, behind the defenders.
“After half time, Krasnodar put a lot of pressure on. Everybody in the stadium could feel that they wanted to score but we defended very well and the penalty after that helped us a lot.”
