Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Sheffield United took the Blues to third position, pending on the remaining games for match week 8, pending the remaining games for the weekend.
Chelsea started the season in shaky form, especially after the defeat to Liverpool and and the 3-3 draw against West Brom where Chelsea were 3-0 down at half-time. The Blues also drew 3-3 with Southampton, after leading 2-0 at some point in the game.
Chelsea have not been seen as serious contenders for the title, but the Blues are looking different class now, and the 4-1 win over Sheffield United showed a team that’s getting into top gear.
Chelsea’s new signings are also beginning to click, and despite the absence of Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz, Chelsea have been top class nevertheless.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who didn’t seem to rate Chelsea’s title credentials in the past, has now hailed the Blues and believes they can come up with the goods.
Asked if Chelsea can be title challengers this season, Wright told Premier League Productions: “Yes, with what they’ve got.
“But like we said there’s a little bit of fitting the pieces together and I think the goalkeeper [Edouard Mendy], Thiago Silva, [Hakim] Ziyech coming in, [Kai] Havertz coming in, Werner coming in, I think those players and the quality and the standard of those players yes they should be [title challengers].
“But then now it’s about fitting the pieces together.”
