The signing of Edouard Mendy seems to have sparked a revival in the Chelsea defence, as the Blues have now kept a clean sheet in five consecutive games, the first time in the Frank Lampard era.
Mendy has ousted Kepa Arrizabalaga from his position as number one, but a Chelsea insider claims Mendy is not arrogant about it.
According to the insider, Mendy feels confident like a boss in the Chelsea squad, and is usually seen barking orders to his teammates, even the captain, although he is not arrogant about it.
“He’s looking like the boss,” an insider from the club told The Athletic about Chelsea’s new keeper Edouard Mendy.
“He’s shouting at everyone. He’s taken over, even telling the captain to do his job. That’s football, that’s confidence. He loves what he’s doing and talking to the players, making saves comes naturally for him.
“Edouard feels he is just doing his job,” the insider added. “He is not getting carried away. After games, he watches clips when he goes home. He talks with people around him about what is good and bad.
“He is very calm. Even when he is being told the good things, he is the one who will raise the bad things, stuff he could have done better.”
Mendy was in goal as Chelsea defeated Rennes 3-0, with the Senegal international up against his former team.
