Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes has become a big hit in the Portuguese League, after leaving England at the end of last season.
Gomes refused to sign a new contract with United and left as a free agent. The 20-year-old was strongly linked with Chelsea at some point, but a deal never really materialised.
Meanwhile, Gomes is now doing well away from the Premier League. He joined Lille as a free agent, before being loaned out to Portuguese side Boavista for the rest of the season.
Gomes has been one of Liga NOS’ outstanding players this season, with three goals and two assists in just five appearances, and he has been a handful for defenders.
“Angel represents one of the biggest international prospects in his position,” Lille CEO Marc Ingla has said, and he has also been hailed as a player with magic feet.
“This boy has magic in his feet,” Portugal legend and 1987 European Cup-winning winger Paulo Futre told Record.
Indeed, Chelsea would have gotten a coup if they had signed him for free and then sent him out on loan to develop.
