With Kai Havertz ruled out for national team selection due to Covid-19, two Chelsea players made the cut to the Germany national team, as Joachim Low decided to hand call ups to Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner.
Germany will play their remaining two UEFA Nations League fixtures against Ukraine and Spain on Saturday (14 November) and Tuesday (17 November). But before that, they face Czech Republic in a friendly game on Wednesday (11 November).
Low has revealed that Werner won’t feature in Wednesday’s game, while Rudiger will play, as he plans to hand playing time to those who haven’t had much games for the friendly, while Werner will be rested so he will feature in the other games.
Speaking in the press conference, Low confirmed several players in his line-up against the Czech Republic (via DFB official website): “Antonio Rüdiger, Robin Koch and Julian Brandt are sure to start.”
“We made a conscious decision that players who have recently played a lot of games will not come until Thursday so that they have a mix of stress and regeneration,” he added.
“We then have to decide how to approach [the team management], I can’t predict that yet.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will definitely be pleased with this decision.
