Timo Werner has a reputation of being a clinical striker, but the German international has been involved in some awful misses of late.
Against Newcastle, a good performance was marred by two missed chances, and against Rennes, Werner also missed two glorious chances. However, Olivier Giroud spared him for his second miss, with a powerful header that sealed Chelsea’s victory away at Rennes.
Former Chelsea star Joe Cole was slightly critical of Timo Werner’s miss as he admitted that he ought to be taking such chances.
Speaking on Chelsea’s last-gasp goal against Rennes on BT Sport, Joe Cole said: “It was a real open moment and Werner, again…
“It was a great header from Giroud, he’s got up but Werner, in this position, you’d like him to be a little more clinical.
“That’s where the improvement will come with his game.
“But this header from Giroud was amazing.”
