Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has joked he felt he was being harsh on Jorginho by making Timo Werner the club’s new penalty taker – considering the Italy international has only missed three in his entire career.
Chelsea forward Timo Werner bagged two penalties against Rennes on Wednesday night after being named as the club’s new penalty taker.
Jorginho had been the club’s first-choice penalty taker but he was swapped out for Werner ahead of the game against Rennes after the forward scored from the spot against Krasnodar last week.
Lampard told BT Sport: “It’s not an easy decision because Jorginho has been pretty faultless for us. It’s harsh from me, isn’t it? No but he missed two recently, Timo came in and obviously scored one in our last game.”
