Chelsea were the biggest spenders in the summer transfer window as Frank Lampard overhauled his squad to make signings worth almost £230m.
Chelsea signed Kai Havertz (£71m), Timo Werner (£48m), Ben Chilwell (£50m), Hakim Ziyech (£36m) and Edouard Mendy (£22m), during the summer, with Thiago Silva joining on a free transfer.
Speaking ahead of the Newcastle game, Lampard has admitted that he is impressed with what he has seen from his new buys so far, and how they have blended with the rest of the team.
Lampard said: “The group feels strong and that’s not easy with a big squad.
“It feels like we’re working in a good direction, with the understanding that we need everybody in the squad as we go through this season because it’s a long marathon that is as congested as it’s ever been.
“I’m happy with all the new signings because every player has come into the team and made an impact in their own way. The balance of the new players and the players that were here trying to improve our standards has been great.”
