Chelsea signed Timo Werner during the summer transfer window, for almost £50m, as Frank Lampard went all out to strengthen his attack.
Many predicted that Tammy Abraham will be limited to a handful of appearances due to the signings that Lampard did during the summer, but Abraham has proven to hold his own when called upon.
The 23-year-old was on the scoresheet against Rennes, and Lampard was pleased with his performance, while also revealing that the academy product has a place in his squad.
Lampard said: “I’m very happy with Tammy. I’ve had numerous conversations with him and we have a good relationship.
“We brought in attacking players in the summer but players that are versatile in their nature. I know the qualities he brings to the team when he’s at his best, like tonight and at Burnley.
“He got his goal, stretches teams, sets the press and gets the team up the pitch. Those are all things that are maybe slightly unseen but they’re really important for me.”
