Jose Mourinho is well known for how much he spends in the transfer market. In fact, the Portuguese has a track record of spending mega money in the transfer market.
Surprisingly, Mourinho has taken a dig at Chelsea’s summer spending, and said that the Blues even have a £72m goalkeeper sitting on the bench.
“With such an amazing squad, [Chelsea are able] to play James or Azpilicueta, or play Chilwell, Alonso or Emerson, to play Mendy or play the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the Premier League [Kepa Arrizabalaga],” Jose Mourinho told a press conference ahead of his return to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
“Chelsea has an amazing squad, so I’m not even worried about who is going to play because they only have very good players.”
In response, Lampard has said that over the past transfer windows since he became Chelsea manager, he has spent just about the same amount on transfers as Tottenham, as he went two windows without any signing due to the transfer ban.
Lampard told the press: “If you look at the spending over the last couple of seasons, what Tottenham made the summer I came to Chelsea and what they’ve done in this break compared to us, you’ll see that it’s been very similar output but the only thing that will get you success is hard work.
“The pressures at Tottenham will be big because Jose has built a fantastic squad and has incredible players so we’re both in the same position – we want success, people have expectations on us and we work towards that.”
