The Chelsea defence was a huge problem last season, as the Blues conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last term.
However, the defence has been tight in recent games. Chelsea have not conceded a goal in the last four games, and new goalkeeper signing Edouard Mendy has only conceded a goal in the six games he has so far played for Chelsea.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hailed Thiago Silva and Mendy for how they have brought security to the Chelsea defence.
“‘From the first game he’s (Mendy) come in, he’s played well,” said Lampard.
“He’s shown his own security and that’s what we’re striving for. When we brought him in, it was clearly for competition and that’s right, and then it’s up to the players to show their own quality, and he’s shown them.
“I’m so pleased with the way he’s started. He’s settled in really well, engaging, trains hard, wants to talk and make relationships with the players in front of him, so it’s been a really good start for him.”
