Chelsea have not conceded a goal in the last four games, with the introduction of veteran defender Thiago Silva and new goalkeeper Edouard bringing in much needed stability to Chelsea’s defence.
Chelsea play Rennes next in the Champions League, and speaking ahead of the game, Michael Owen backed Chelsea to win the game 2-0, and was particularly impressed with the Chelsea defence.
“Since their 3-3 draw at home to Southampton, Chelsea have gone 4 games on the bounce without conceding a goal,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The Blues have certainly turned the corner after a sluggish start to the season, and I think they’ll come out on top at home to Rennes here.”
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has hailed Thiago Silva and Mendy for how they have brought security to the Chelsea defence.
“From the first game he’s (Mendy) come in, he’s played well,” said Lampard.
“He’s shown his own security and that’s what we’re striving for. When we brought him in, it was clearly for competition and that’s right, and then it’s up to the players to show their own quality, and he’s shown them.
“I’m so pleased with the way he’s started. He’s settled in really well, engaging, trains hard, wants to talk and make relationships with the players in front of him, so it’s been a really good start for him.”
