If there is one player who has improved remarkably this season, it has been Kurt Zouma. The 26-year-old has become a rock in defence, and it could easily be pointed to the influence of Thiago Silva who has led the defence beside him.
When Zouma first signed for Chelsea from St Etienne in 2014, much was expected from him, but a terrible injury in 2016, brought his promising career to a halt.
Loan spells at Stoke City and Everton helped him rediscover some form, with the Toffees keen on signing him after his spell there.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had seen enough to keep him at the club last season, but it’s this season that we are actually beginning to see the best of the Frenchman.
We recently brought you a stat that Zouma has won the most defensive aeriel duels in Europe this season.
Zouma has made 26 out of 27 defensive headers – which equates to a success rate of 96.3%.
It doesn’t just end there. Zouma currently leads the way among Chelsea defenders for clearances (36), aerial duels (27) and interceptions (nine) in the Premier League this season.
The solid defender has improved his passing game and seems more comfortable to pass out from the back. He has also found a new talent upfront as he has scored three headed goals from setpieces for his team.
