Chelsea star Kai Havertz missed the game against Rennes after testing positive to Covid-19, and thus wasn’t part of the squad.

Kai Havertz tested positive on Monday and was already showing slight symptoms of the virus before the game against Rennes.

After the match, Lampard revealed that he spoke to the £72million signing, revealing that his symptoms have worsensed compared to the beginning of the week.

Havertz missed the game against Rennes, and will also miss out this weekend’s game against Sheffield United. Havertz is also expected to miss Spain’s international games next week.

Thanks to the international break, Havertz should be back by the time we face Newcastle on the 21st.

“It showed up in the UEFA testing on Monday,” Lampard said of Havertz. “We retested yesterday when we found out. Clearly everyone else in the squad is negative, so that is a good sign. I’ve spoke to Kai a couple of times since we found out.

“He’s at home, he’s isolating and he was very disappointed because he wants to play. He had some minor symptoms yesterday, his symptoms have escalated slightly today but he is fine. I spoke to him two hours before the game today and he’s disappointed to be out.

“He’s trying to do all the right things. It’s just one of those things in the modern day with where we’re at. Hopefully he isolates, does the right things and comes back firing.”
