Chelsea boss Frank Lampard seems to have confirmed that Thiago Silva will miss the game against Newcastle United after a lengthy trip back from international duty in South America.

Lampard has vowed not to overuse the Brazilian, thus the reason to rest him against Newcastle.

Lampard briefed the media in his press conference: “Thiago Silva has just landed and messaged me this afternoon so he probably won’t be going to Newcastle because of the length of his journey and timings.”

Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma have formed the most formidable partnership in defence for Chelsea this season, having only conceded a goal in the 4-1 win against Sheffield United.

The Thiago Silva– Kurt Zouma combination has been very effective in making Chelsea defence a fortress, and one can only imagine how the defence will look in the absence of the veteran Brazilian.

Frank Lampard has three options to choose from, in Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori. Who will be the best option to replace Silva for the Newcastle clash?

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.

  1. Big Rudi is better than Christened by 100%

  2. Either Antonio Rudiger or Fikayo Tomori will be fine but Christensen will bring a disaster to the team
