Chelsea boss Frank Lampard made nine changes for the game against Sevilla, with Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner dropping to the bench.
Only goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and midfielder Jorginho remain from the Chelsea team that were held to a goalless draw by Premier League title rivals Tottenham last weekend.
According to Lampard, he dropped Werner and Ziyech because they needed to rest due to a very busy schedule and the other players deserve the chance to play after working hard in training.
Explaining why he dropped Werner and Ziyech for the game against Sevilla, Lampard said: “The schedule is one reason.
“Players need to rest because they are playing every few days but the flip side is that the other players are training hard and deserving to play.”
