Mikel Arteta was without star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for their Carabao Cup game against Manchester City, and is sweating out the fitness of the Gabon international ahead of facing Chelsea.

Arteta now has another injury worry to think of, as Gabriel Martinelli got injured in their 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

The Brazilian was having a good game and provided an assist for Alexandre Lacazette’s first-half strike but eventually had to be subbed off immediately after the restart.

The young forward was clattered by City goalkeeper Zack Steffen shortly before half-time and went down clutching his leg in agony. Martinelli did re-emerge for the second half despite the pain he suffered from the challenge, but he lasted just three minutes before being replaced by Nicolas Pepe.

Martinelli could now miss Saturday’s clash against Chelsea as Mikel Arteta’s problems continue to pile up.
