Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa is available on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Atletico Madrid earlier this week.
A number of clubs across Europe have been linked with the Spain international, who had fallen down the pecking order under Diego Simeone following the arrival of Luis Suarez from Barcelona in the summer.
Costa was usually a terror to the Gunners, and some reports have linked the former Blues striker with Arsenal. However, The Athletic, claim that Arsenal have distanced themselves from a likely move for Costa and that no contact has been made so far.
Diego Costa has failed to reach his great heights since leaving Chelsea, after falling out with former boss Antonio Conte.
In his message to Atletico supporters on Wednesday, Costa wrote: “I want to thank all the fans, but I think that my moment arrived and that for me, as well as for the club, it was the best thing that could happen.
“I think it’s the best moment for both of us, and the best way to help this team and the club.
“I have given my best, or at least, I always tried to give my best for this club and this shirt.”
