Petr Cech was part of Chelsea’s first Premier League winning team, as the Blues rose to win the league under the guidance of a young Jose Mourinho in the 2004-05 campaign.

Chelsea won the league in style in that campaign, losing one game and conceding only 15 goals and reaching a then Premier League record of 95 points, and the Blues also reached the semifinal of the Champions League.

Cech sees some similarities between that Chelsea team and this current squad, and has backed the team to go all the way and have a successful season.

“I think we [Chelsea] are in a similar position to where the team was in the 2004-05 season,” Petr Cech told the Champions League Magazine.

“We have players who came in of a younger age, players in their mid-20s with a lot of expectation and hunger to succeed.

“We have a young manager and everybody is driving forward and hungry to succeed. I believe there is a similarity to that team.

“It is important we keep winning and put ourselves in a good position to attack the next part of the Champions League.”
