According to the Sun, Chelsea and the other five London teams will have their players tested twice a week for Covid as League bosses try to ensure the season is not seriously disrupted.
This comes after London was placed under Tier 4 category of lockdown following the identification of a new, more contagious strain of coronavirus which is on the rise.
The extra testing programme will be extended throughout the ENTIRE league from early next month in the expectation that the new variant strain of Covid will spread nationwide.
Premier League bosses believe testing twice a week will increase the chance of finding infected people before they can spread the virus.
Premier League chiefs recognise that the congested season leaves very little room for postponed games to be rescheduled if the virus runs rampant through any outfits clubs.
