According to reports in Spain, Atletico Madrid want to sign Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud in January as a replacement for Diego Costa.
The Spanish giants confirmed yesterday that they had released ex-Blues forward Diego Costa from his contract.
Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham have been preferred to Giroud in attack this term, although he appears to have gained the trust of Frank Lampard in more recent weeks.
According to reports, Atletico are hoping that they can persuade Chelsea into business with a small cash offer.
After spending big during the summer transfer window, the Blues could be tempted into selling to help balance the books rather than lose Giroud for nothing in June.
Giroud, who has eight goals in his last eight matches for Chelsea, will become a free agent at the end of the season.
