Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has revealed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was happy with the performance of the team against Aston Villa.

Anwar El Ghazi cancelled out Olivier Giroud’s opener for Chelsea.

Chilwell said: “[The manager] is more pleased than he was the other day. It’s a draw at home. We want to be winning these games, but the effort and performance was a lot better today. The mentality is the main thing, and that was a lot better.

“They had one chance and they scored from it. We’re disappointed not to have won, but it was a much better performance so soon after a disappointing one.

“At Chelsea you want the full-backs to be joining in. I do like to get forward. The priority is obviously defending, but when I do get forward I try and do what I can.

“At the moment we’re not quite getting the rub of the green, but we’ll keep working hard. We’ve got a very strong squad. We’ve got two or three players in every position who are up to the standard. It’s what you want at a top club.”
