Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell turned 24 on Monday, but it wasn’t the way he planned his birthday as he landed awkwardly after a challenge with Jarrod Bowen early on at Stamford Bridge.
The newly turned 24-year-old had to be subbed off, with Emerson taking his place early in the first half.
Chilwell took to social media to thank fans for the birthday wishes he received.
He wrote on Twitter: “Thanks for all the birthday wishes today.”
Chilwell was however pleased with with the outcome of the game as Chelsea defeated West Ham 3-0, as he hoped the injury won’t be a bad one.
He wrote on twitter: “Back to winning ways. Hopefully injury is not so bad.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard gave a brief assessment of Chilwell’s injury as he said that the 24-year-old would also miss Arsenal clash.
Asked if Chilwell is a doubt for our Boxing Day clash against Arsenal, Lampard responded: “I expect he’ll be doubtful for Arsenal.
“He turned his ankle and tried to carry on but it was too painful. We’ll have a scan tomorrow to try and see how bad the injury is. We’ll update after.”
