Chelsea lost two consecutive games for this first time this season and fans have blamed Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard for these defeats.
Can we just stop the blames for a moment and tell ourselves the truth about the Chelsea team this season. We aren’t the same team without Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea have failed to win a game in all competitions since Ziyech picked up a hamstring injury in the victory over Leeds. Chelsea drew against Krasnodar in the Champions League and lost to Everton and Wolves in the Premier League.
Chelsea are unbeaten in the 9 games Ziyech has started for the Blues this season, winning 8 and drawing just one game. In the 12 games he hasn’t started for the Blues, Chelsea have won just 3, drawing 6 and losing 3.
Chelsea also score more goals and concede less when Ziyech starts. The Blues score an average of 2.78 goals when the Moroccan international starts against 1.83 goals when he doesn’t start. We concede 0.33 goals when Ziyech start against 1.13 goals when he doesn’t start.
The Blues are a better team when Ziyech plays because he is a player who is willing to take risks and create things. The team also has a more natural balance and width on the right when Ziyech plays.
Lampard will be hoping Ziyech is fit when West Ham visit Stamford Bridge on Monday.
